2.8 A Little Lost

Consult with Yasser on the mounting plants/ moss wall:

"The green can be digital so that the worker can continue to work as compared to putting moss on a screen

office culture to make a community garden essential for the workers

ask for a friend as a journey of a day in a life (formalise)

need to play with the senses → soundbox of water? dim the light

consider journey → strategizing on the diff portion of the day of the worker

understand the workspace, debunk existing ideas, not as effective, interview shopee workers

one strong statement piece and manifested in the deliverables"

After a consult with Yasser, I was demotivated as my ideas were understandably lacking a lasting effect on the user.

So, I went to get another opinion, Guo Wen, on the matter:

When I told him I was surveying Shopee, he asked why. I responded that Shopee is known to have one of the nicer offices with a lot of amenities. They even feature many Biophilic elements. So if this office is one of the top, it can be assumed that the average office space will not have most of these.

Guo Wen still reaffirms that this is an assumption and if I wanted my design to be effective, it has to be specific and targeted but told me that this is an interesting discussion.

He suggests trying to help change perception, communicate it in a healthy way

now too ambitious, just show the different cultural views of nature compared to local millennials.

He mentioned how Biophilia is very architecture-centric. As it affects the space where people live. He then gave an example of how Facebook (now Meta) has designed their Headquarters to be open and airy with huge windows.

"nature is important with scale, when bit-sized, it is questionable in effectiveness

it is more believable and effective in an architectural sense is better

how can we communicate these architecture topics to individuals"

Showcase what nature is to you:

what concept of nature do you want to show

  • how people can be engaged to grow things → how it can give people

  • to be interactive

  • multiple ways to help to grow naturally in the home

  • show the fragility, because you can truly understand why preserve

  • be sensitive to the different perspectives of the home

  • slow design detracts as the simple design is better, the artefacts become more compelling as it is more easily understood

  • what if we can perceive nature in a different way (fake windows? picking up stuff from the outside (rocks, seashells, flowers, the fruit → they rot at home, nature dies in the home as they collected in the home. how nature is time-sensitive. what is nature is something you see)

  • nature as an image, nature as a cycle, nature as growth. all of them can be right and what do they mean in different homes
